Beyond Doubt

In response to Daily Prompt, Doubters Alert.

What commonly accepted truth (or “truth”) do you think is wrong, or at least seriously doubt?  Why?

The Doubt

I have doubted the existence of god for more than a decade, maybe close to two decades.

Why?

There are too many reasons to list why, so I’ve chosen a handful:

  • Too many biblical contradictions. See http://bibviz.com/.
  • Scientifically impossible events.

And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters: And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.
Genesis 5:26-27

  • Promotes violence, discrimination, and misogyny.

And everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel. Then… the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die.

  • Anti intellectual – “just have faith.” Don’t think for yourself, trust the bible and the “experts.” That just doesn’t sit well with me.

  1. I doubt God as anyone of us have ever attempted to describe it/him/she/them. I think God is in the science. With the multiverse theory, and energy conservation, I do believe there is something greater than we could ever understand. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep trying to figure it out, however.
